December 4, Three River's Rambler, Knoxville, TN

Members of the Georgia Garden Railway Society will experience the magic of a holiday train ride through Knoxville, Tennessee on Saturday, December 4, 2010. Our group will be served Christmas cookies and refreshments, and Santa Claus will board the train at the halfway point to visit and give everyone a gift. During the ride, storytellers will read a holiday book, called The Christmas Lantern. The train will depart the Neyland Drive boarding area at 2 pm. for a 90 minute ride behind the Three Rivers Rambler steam loco.
After the ride, members will venture about 1 ½-2 blocks to Calhoun's on the River for a meal (members order from the menu and pay their own check). This restaurant was enjoyed by all on last year's trip. Members can rehash the train ride as they enjoy their meal together. The restaurant is located right on the river, as the name implies, and affords some nice river views. http://www.calhouns.com/CalhOnTnRiver.shtml is the web site with menu, directions, etc.

Finally, we will travel about two miles down Neyland Drive to the UT Gardens to visit Mark Fuhrman's gigantic G-scale Christmas Train display. You will recall that Mark was the guy with the gold fish tank cars at the Southeast Garden Railway Show in Dalton. He does three displays a year, including the Dalton show, the Knoxville's Home & Garden Show in February, and the UT Gardens display at Christmas. There is a small admission charge for the garden and hot drinks are available at a concession stand on the premises.
http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/nov/28/112908train/ will get you a few images from a couple years ago, but you will get the idea.

Because trains sell out, it is IMPORTANT to reserve space EARLY. Tickets for the RIDE ONLY are $26.50 each and must be ordered by September 1, 2010 from Ted Yarbrough, 212 Love Drive, Chatsworth, GA 30705. Tickets are non-refundable, but may be transferred (or sold) to other members if something comes up and you are unable to attend. If you need to order tickets after September 1, you may be able to get them directly from the railroad if seats are still available.
