There were five layouts at the 2008 Southeastern Large Scale Train Show. These were set up by the same groups that participated last year. The Emerald Coast Garden Railway Club and the Florida Garden Railway Society, Tampa Bay Division, combined their equipment to construct a very large on-the-floor layout with lots of track and lots of trains. Another Tampa Bay layout was the modular Sundance Central with its outstanding models. Members of a group from St. Louis set up a small switching layout. And the Georgia Garden Railway Society again set up its movable layout and a raised live-steam layout.
Here are a couple of photos of the Emerald Coast Garden Railway Club and the Florida Garden Railway Society, Tampa Bay Division, layout.
The Sundance Central modular layout has some beautiful structures on it. Obviously, these were not intended for outside use!

Joe Fotschky of the GGRS built the support for the live steam layout that he and other members of the club set up each year at the SELSTS.
The GGRS club layout is different every year. This year, there were three small towns on the layout.
Here's a shot of the yard.
Dave Bennett's sawmill was busy again.
A trolley line connected two small towns on the layout this year.
The peanut farm is always a hit with the crowds.
We didn't include Richard Garlinghouse's waterfall this year. Instead, Richard built this small raised loop with two bridges. The younger crowd enjoyed Thomas running around this track.
Several members of the GGRS entered models in the SELSTS contests this year. The overall number of entries was larger than last year, and some of our members walked away with ribbons.
Here is Russ Bundy's entrance in the diorama category.
Russ also did this nice model of two loaded flatcars.
Richard Garlinghouse built this working model of a gristmill with complete interior.
This garage was scratch-built by one of our newer members, James Robinson.
Michael Niebaum of Michael's Custom Woodworking was at SELSTS again this year. Michael, who is one of our club sponsors, donated some of his buildings as door prizes for the banquet.
Jim Hyatt, Lawrence McFall, and Dave Bennett watch the trains run and answer questions about the club layout.
It looks like we caught Leslie Bundy with her hand in the cookie jar!
Chris and Susan Wolcott talk with Linda Dietz at the Ask a Gardener booth.
The GGRS hosted the banquet again this year. Alan Mole and Lawrence McFall collect tickets.
Ann and John Timms, club members from nearby Macon, wait for their turn at the buffet.
Lewis Polk, Owner of Aristocraft and sponsor for the SELSTS, welcomes attendees to the banquet.
Well-known hobbyist and author Marty Cozad entertained the audience with his observations on our hobby. Notice the t-shirt. Marty thought the banquet was a black-tie affair.
Thanks to Joe Fotschky and Don Nute for photos.
